What is LEED?

St. Petersburg, Florida’s first Green City
"We welcome the first LEED-certified Dunkin' Donuts in the world to St. Petersburg, the first designated Green City in Florida," said St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker. "I salute private industries that are joining our city to create a sustainable future for our children."

Dunkin' Donuts Goes Green

The first Dunkin’ Donuts LEED certified restaurant is part of a greater Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment that will provide the company with a central frame of reference for organizational decisions, strategic goal setting, and behaviors that respect all of our key stakeholders, including consumers, employees, franchisees, communities, suppliers, government and the environment.

Dunkin' Brands Today:
Our first LEED-certified restaurant is a free-standing Dunkin’ Donuts at 7595 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, FL. Dunkin' Brands built the restaurant for new franchisees Mr. and Mrs. Robert Aziz, Sr. and Robert Aziz, Jr. The store opened in September 2008.

What does it mean to be “Green?”
Doing our part to preserve the environment for future generations.

“Green” highlights of this Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant include:

LEED Certification

  • The restaurant is built with energy efficient materials to help reduce heating and air conditioning costs by up to 40%
  • Energy efficient lighting and motion sensors were installed for lights in areas used less
  • Water efficient plumbing fixtures help save water
  • Waste materials from the construction of the restaurant were recycled

Reusable Mug Program

  • This reduces waste and product costs
  • Guests who bring in a clean reusable mug for their beverage receive a discount
  • Every crew member received a reusable mug with their welcome kit

Paper Hot Cups

  • Coffee is served in paper cups rather than foam cups
  • Paper cups are made from renewable sources

Tray Service For Eat-In Customers

  • Rather than use paper bags for orders, dine-in guests receive their order on a reusable tray
  • This can save approximately 50,000 bags per year in an average restaurant

Community Recycling

  • The restaurant contributes to a community recycling center in the area
  • The recycling center will accept cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper, and cans

Food Donation to Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest)

  • Any leftover baked goods are donated to a local food bank

Hybrids and Alternative Transportation

  • There is special parking for hybrids and carpoolers (one spot each)
  • A bike rack is available for cyclists
  • The restaurant is also on a local bus route

Green Cleaning Chemicals

  • Cleaning chemicals meet LEED requirements and California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards
  • These are better for the environment and safer for crew members and guests
